New Dance: PENG YOU (FRIENDS)

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | December 29, 2020

dance: PENG YOU (FRIENDS)
description: 66c 2w phrased intermediate line dance
music: PENG YOU by EMIL CHAU

Friends are the most important part of your life. Treasure the tears, Treasure the laughter, but most importantly, Treasure the memories.

God knows how many friends we have made during our dance journey. I remember migrating to the big city KL in 2004 all alone. After work it was just back to my rented room and for the first few weeks, I was getting depressed already. Of course I have my friends from school and university and work but they have their routines and different interests. Until I found a line dance group, and the new friendships started multiplying. From new classes, and events that we go to, and with internet, new friendships were formed via instant messaging system, email and then social media. Line dance friends are different from other friends, because we have the same interests. And many have of these friendships has lasted since, and upgraded to BFF as well 🙂

Now back to the dance, Adeline invited me to collaborate with her on this as it’s one of her favourite song. The phrasing of the song was quite tricky though so we tried our best to phrase it out as simply as possible for dancers to dance and enjoy the song at the same time. The song is simply too nice and lyrics very meaningful, about memories reminiscence of friendships. Do check it out if you haven’t done so. The reviews have been great! So we hope you will enjoy it too!

New Dance: The YAYA Dance (Party Animal)

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 5, 2020

So after MCO, when Janice and Winson came to do a video shoot for Keep Flying, we had some near friends (Ivy, Soo, Adeline & Wendee) over for tea, just to gather-gather after our lockdown. It’s been so long since we met each other and I them of an interesting party song I heard on radio. The song is Party Animal by Mayday, a popular rock band from Taiwan. Everyone immediately took a liking to it and we started choreographing to it immediately. So yeah, it’s a dance made together at the same time at the same place! And that happened in July 2020!

The dance is phrased accordingly to the music, so we don’t recommend memorizing the sequence. Just dance to the music. Steps are not too difficult so dancers can enjoy and party all night oh oh…

After my eye surgery and recovery, we quickly arrange to meet up to shoot a group video. The video was shot at one of our friends’ beautiful bespoke home. We had a fun afternoon and a gracious host who made yummy food for us and a creative videographer as well. Everyone felt like a movie star (haha) and carrying luggage filled with costumes and accessories, as if we were going to the airport! Oh how we missed the airport and wished we were really going on a trip!

Anyway, here the dance video, which received tremendous compliments. If you haven’t saw it yet, do check it out!

New Dance: 1001 Nights

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 22, 2019

Dance Name: 1001 Nights
Choreographed by: Winson Eng, Philip Sobrielo, Jennifer Choo
Description: 2 Wall Phrased Intermediate
Music: 1001 Nights Arabian Nights by Ch!pz
Stepsheet: https://www.copperknob.co.uk/stepsheets/1001-nights-ID137169.aspx

Behind The Dance…

The dance was conceptualised for Wynette and my Arabian Nights themed LDF event held in Klang on 19 Oct 2019. So Philip Sobrielo and Winson Eng came by my place on the eve of the event to finalise the dance steps, until wee hours of the morning.

About the Song & Phrasing

We chose the music 1001 Nights Arabian Nights by Ch!pz, a pop group from the Netherlands to fit the theme of the event. The dance is called 1001 Nights with signature moves from the artists themselves, showing the 1-0-0-1 arm movements which are really cool. We had the dance phrased to fit the different melody and tempo and lyrics of the music, but the steps are fairly simple and repetitive in nature. The music will tell you when to do what, it’s pretty obvious.

We hope you will enjoy this fun dance, esp the arms bit. We did and the music is catchy and awesome. Do take a look!

On a side note, we raised RM8000 from ticket sales, donations and proceeds from stalls, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have contributed in one way or another, making the event a great success. Love you all <3

New Dance: Run Run Runaway

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | August 28, 2019

Dance name: Run Run Runaway
Description: 64 count 2 wall intermediate phrased line dance
Choreographers: Adeline Cheng, Winson EWS, Jennifer Choo & Philip Sobrielo
Music: Runaway by Sebastian Yatra & Daddy Yankee feat Jonas Brothers
Stepsheet: https://www.copperknob.co.uk/stepsheets/run-run-runaway-ID135810.aspx

Behind the dance…

Philip got us together on a Whatsapp group to create a dance for his Glitz and Glam event as we confirmed our attendance (roughly 2-3 weeks before his event) so we were throwing in some music suggestions. In the end, we chose the song Runaway by Sebastian Yatra & Daddy Yankee feat Jonas Brothers due to its catchiness. We provided some parts each and so a new dance was born, which we thought is FUN and FITTING to the lyrics. Hope you could feel our choreography too 🙂 Can anyone guess which part was choreographed by whom? 😀

About the song & phrasing…

The song is a mix of English and Spanish lyrics. It’s catchy and the song gets into your head. Part A is the verse while Part B is the chorus (runa-runa-runa-runa-runa-runaway). You will be able to know which part to dance from the song. Just in case you can’t, just remember these for the phrasing: AA-BB-AAAA-B-AAA-B-AA

  1. 2-4-3-2 as the number of A’s in sequence
  2. B’s always starts on 12:00 except the 2nd B which starts at 6:00.

For the ending, just run another 1/2R (4 counts) instead of the press slides to end on 12:00.

Videos of the dance

We taught the dance during Glitz and Glam 2019 but completely forgotten to video the dance teach/demo. So we did a little mock-up after the party. Here it is:
