Celebrate Dance! In Toronto

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | September 8, 2011

1 Sept (Thur)
First day of Celebrate Dance! Event. Participants and instructors started trickling n checking into hotel. Everyone mingled and chatted happily, registered n started dancing!! The self-made floors were great and got great commendations!

2 Sept (Fri)
First day of workshop. Quite nervous to teach with the big names like Scott, Rachael, John, Michele, Joanne, Gerald, Judy, Donna, Vivienne, Zandra, Double Trouble and Amy. workshop started off with previews of danced to be taught today. Attended few classes and taught Sweetie (Niels), Aces Go Places and Hey Ladies. Evening came and it’s time to party! There was a quick preview of the dances to be taught on Sat & Sun. Party until wee hours of the morning!!

3 Sept (Sat)
2nd day of workshops. Lots of dances lined up for today. Started wt Zumba Gold by Joanne Brady. Attended more classes today and taught Chilly Cha Cha by AT Kinson as a classic. As there were still time, the students requested for Hey Ladies as they had missed it yesterday. Then taught At This Moment which was the crowd favourite.

There’s a special dinner in the evening, followed by a special show by 5 performers: Amy did a classical Indian dance, Michele Perron did a west coast swing with her husband Brian. Then comes my turn to performed Innuendo which was the dance that got Carmen and I acquainted. Next Robert sang the song he used to sing to Carmen when they were courting: Elton’s Your Song. The show’s finale was an amazing waltz performance by Rachael. The whole show was highly emotional as everyone remembered Carmen so there were lots of tears. The night continued with more open dancing till wee hours in the morning!

4 Sept (Sun)
Last day of event, time really flies! Everyone’s tired and sore but still having lots of fun! My last class was Zoobi Doobi and again there was some extra time and more wanted a repeat of Hey Ladies again. Everyone hugged n bade farewell to each other, some wondering when they will get to see me again. Dinner with Christina Mui & Lily Choi as they drove us back to Toronto. Robert’s still dismantling the floor boards and we found out the next day, he only got back at 3am…

5 Sept (Mon)
Woke up sore… Its very cold today and we have to do the laundry from the whole week. Met Winnie Yu & her gang for lunch and did some shopping at Pacific Mall. Then we had dinner with Anne, Show Ming, Alice & Polly and a ladies night out after that at Anne’s – painting nails!

6 Sept (Tues)
Woke up to finish packing (laundry not fully dried) and we head off to Burlington again to return the audio equipments. Then we left Toronto for Niagara Falls which is another hour’s drive from Burlington. The Falls were truly majestic and beautiful but the cold wind doesn’t allow us to stay out too long. And no rainbow as there was no bright sun 🙁 We drove to the falls again at night to watch it in coloured lights. Spent the night in Niagara as we’re heading off to USA the next day.

7 Sept (Wed)
Before driving across the border, we took a drive to the Niagara Whirlpool. Again it’s so cold and rainy! Then we drove across Rainbow Bridge to Buffalo USA. Took a flight to San Francisco and transit at Atlanta. Met another group of line dancers from Toronto in Buffalo Airport and South Africa in Atlanta. Wow, we can’t wait to get there!!

Trip to Toronto

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | September 2, 2011

27 Aug (Sat)
Left KL at 9.30am. Travelled 23 hours to reach Toronto at 8.30pm. On the same day. No sleep at all cos seats can’t recline. Robert picked us up and we headed home. Slept 6 hrs straight.

28 Aug (Sun)
Woke up in Toronto. 20 deg C. Very strong winds so very cold! Visited the freshwater seaside at Lake Ontario. Big lake looks more like sea! Then visited Twyn River Creek after some mini woods trekking. No sweaty feeling!!

29 Aug (Mon)
Woke up to 15 deg C. Brought jackets out but not too cold cos wind not so strong. Went to pick up rented truck wt Robert. Shocked to see a 25 footer truck the size of a bus! R drove it to an open parking lot to practice parking wt Jan n I as navigator! Haha… Imagine how tensed we were :-p Loaded truck with 7×900 pounds of 10″x5″ of dance floor boards. Tricky to get all into the truck but wt Jan’s packing skills, we managed! Drove 1 hr to Burlington. Prob starts with unloading!! Robert gets no help from 2 damsels. Luckily 2 hotel guys helped to unload. Rushed back to Scarborough as Christina has invited us for D&D at a Chinese restaurant. Asian line dancers started coming in and filled up the place! They danced to new n old dances and to dances choreographed by Malaysians n Singaporeans! Felt very proud of our choreographers! Taught Hey Ladies and they absolutely loved it. Think they danced it more than 5 times and requested that I teach the styling too. Amazing!!!

30 Aug (Tues)
Much warmer today with 25 deg C. Great day to tour downtown. saw the CN Tower n some other nice architecture in Toronto. Had lunch at Hard Rock & lovely food. Was having sore throat so decided to go home and rest. Evening out bargain shopping. Costume & party stuffs r so cheap no wonder there r so many themed parties!!

31 Aug (Wed)
Regina picked us up and took us for dim sum lunch and shopping at Vaughn Mills. Dinner with Peggy & Teresa at Amigos. Had a great time extending FB chats to lively discussions with both groups!!

1 Sept (Thur)
The day of the event! We left home early to set things up for the event in the evening. Will blog more later!!
