Amy Christian – mini workshop (19 Nov 2011)

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 18, 2011

Amy Christian-Sohn, a Singaporean choreographer, who is now residing in Michigan, USA, is a known choreographer in this region and more recently in the USA. Her popular dances such as Don’t Cha Wish and Dhoom Dhoom are still being played in events locally. Amy has been choreographing a lot of fun line dances and the line dancers in the US enjoy her Asian-touched creativity very much.

She will be visiting Kuala Lumpur for a weekend on her return trip to Singapore and would be conducting mini workshops here. I’ve asked her to teach her dance(s) at my Serdang Class on 19 November (9 – 11 am). Everyone is welcomed to join us, but please register with me first as dance space may be limited.

At This Moment in Windy City, Chicago

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 15, 2011

When I was in Toronto and San Francisco, the common phrase was, “Are you going to Windy City?” or “See you at Windy City!” or “That’s the event to be at!”. Jan and I were itching so much to join in all the anticipated fun, but too bad, we both had to head back home right after San Francisco. The event was held a few weeks after we return to KL (6-9 Oct).

Windy City Dance Mania is an annual event organised by Mark Cosenza, Eve and Glen and is said to be one of the top and most fun event.Besides the regular workshops, there were also Shows, choreography competition and pro choreography competition by the famed choreographers.

Itching badly to join in the fun, I am contented enough to have my dance taught there. John Robinson, who saw At This Moment at Toronto, took a liking to it and has been teaching it for the past few events he was at.

The dance was scheduled to be on the final spot on Friday workshops but in the main ballroom. Having been to several workshops like this, dancers are normally dead tired by the end of the day, with so many new dances to remember and muscles fatigue! But I’m glad with the great turn out and feedback that the dance was good.

Someone (Greg Markish) wrote this in the WLDN:

4pm – At This Moment (Choo Sue Chin) with John Robinson – John Robinson is a bundle of energy, and for me he really, really shines while teaching a waltz. John explained that he saw and fell in love with this dance a few weeks ago at another event, and decided to share it with us at Windy City. I’m soooo glad that he did. The Michael Buble track is amazing in its own right, but Choo Sue Chin’s choreography really nails it. I confess that I’ll need to work on the late-in-dance tag that occurs through a pause in the music, but other than that the steps and music flow along very smoothly.

Here’s a snippet of John and class dancing it during the workshop… Enjoy! Thx to Christine Mui for the video 🙂

Hey Ladies (Teach & Style)

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 6, 2011

I’ve been getting a lot of request to do a teach video of the steps and styling for Hey Ladies since it was released in August. Many also asked to show a break down of the Drunken Jazzbox step.

Sorry for the delay but I was having some problem to edit the videos with my PC.  I finally managed to overcome the Video Editing problem after much research.

So here you go, the anticipated teach video of Hey Ladies. If you watched until the end, you’ll be able to see the Styling walk through of the dance. This teach was done in a Chinese Restaurant in Toronto where Lewis Lee (Ring My Bell) DJs at. Thanks to Christina for inviting me over that night to celebrate your  birthday. We had lots of fun. On behalf of the Malaysian choreographers, thanks for teaching and dancing to our dances 🙂

At This Moment (revised stepsheet)

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | October 3, 2011

I’ve revised the stepsheet for At This Moment, which I taught in Toronto’s Celebrate Dance! early Sept. In the old version, the bridge was ‘freestyle’ but as I taught a specific steps of steps during Celebrate Dance!, I reckon it’s best I add those steps I taught into the stepsheet so dancers could revise and follow. The dance was very well received at the event.

Download the revised stepsheet.

Video taken at the Celebrate Dance! event during Open Dancing/Review.
