New Dance: No More Tears

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | April 28, 2020

Dance Name: No More Tears
Choreographed by: Adeline Cheng, Jennifer Choo
Description: 32 counts 4 Walls low intermediate dance with tango flavour
Music: No More Tears by Fred Cheng
Stepsheet: https://www.copperknob.co.uk/stepsheets/no-more-tears-ID141790.aspx

Adeline Cheng sent me a lovely tango Cantonese song by Fred Cheng entitled No More Tears. I fell in love with it the first moment I heard it. What’s best was when we phrased out the music, it’s 32 counts with no tags and no restarts. What a blessing to find this song!

We quickly put together some steps to fit the rhythm and came up with a 32 count 4 wall low intermediate line dance, just in time for ONlive Dance At Home which Rebecca Lee put together on 25-26 Apr 2020, a paid virtual event for line dancers to learn new choreography. The dance was very well received and immediately after the workshop, Penny Tan has done a video demo of it! She was faster than lightning when our stepsheet was not even uploaded yet.

And here’s some background about Adeline and I. We became closer during the Malaysian Movement Control Order as we are organising daily line dance jammings on FB Live since 18 March, something we have been doing for our Line Dance community worldwide who are also confined at home due to the global pandemic. The jammings proved to be very successful with dancers looking forward to our jammings every night, where Adeline and I took turns to lead some 7-10 line dances and where line dancers could gather virtually, dance together and chit chat on cyberspace. This eventually led us to be on Streamline and Retro-line together with the other international choreographers and instructors sharing new and old dances. So looks like this is our new normal for now.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank those who have generously donated to Line Dance Foundation. The charitable organisation is working at it’s max now helping out the many line dance professionals in sustaining their livelihood, without classes/events/income during the pandemic. So funds are fast depleting. If you have yet to donate and would like to contribute to our line dance family, please contact your local LDF ambassadors.

So stay healthy, dance at home, because our muscles are wasting away with less movement being confined to homes. We can also revise our dances, learn news and old ones, as this is the best time. When we’re dancing and socialising (although virtually), we are generating our happy juice, and not be depressed by the bad news of pandemic. Hope to see and dance with you in the very near future. Fingers crossed the virus will be eliminated totally very very soon!

Oh wow… what a great honour to be appointed the Patron of this Charity event!!

Have you done your wee bit of charity this year? Whether yes or not yet, come and support the event: Dance for the Children’s SMILE, a Line Dancing for Charity, Raising Funds and Creating Awareness for Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) worldwide. This is a joint-project by Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur for the global campaign for children, The eliMiNaTe Project.

What is MNT?

You probably have heard of tetanus or lockjaw, an infection commonly associated with rust injury. MNT stands for Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus that infects mothers and new born babies when the umbilical cord is cut without proper hygiene or immunisation. Many babies and mothers around the world die from MNT (an average rate of a case in every 9 minutes!!) especially in the developing countries. We Malaysians are lucky as the immunisation is part of Ministry of Health’s provision to all pregnant mothers, but not everyone in the world can afford the vaccine. A course of three injections costs about USD1.80 is all it takes to save a mother and a baby.

How can you help?

  • If you’re a line dancer, simply purchase a ticket and come and dance! The more the merrier!
  • If you’re a line dancer but unable to attend the event due to any particular reason, you can still donate cash/kind for the noble and global cause.
  • If you’re not a line dancer, you may also donate cash/kind for the noble and global cause. You may also set up a stall to sell your wares or services at the event and donate a part of your proceeds for charity.
  • You may also sponsor food or drinks or prizes for lucky draw for the attendees of the event.
  • You may lend a hand or foot to make this event a success!
  • You may by word of mouth or via social networking, help to promote the event to everyone else and encourage your friends to join in!

For more details of the event, please contact me or Kiwanian Phang Chit Looi or Lily Soong or Ee Ling Lai.

Come and Line Dance for the Children’s SMILE! 🙂

Feel Good Cha in Windy City Line Dance Mania 2012!

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | September 28, 2012

I’m so very very happy to see that Feel Good Cha is on the Workshop schedule of Windy City Line Dance Mania to be held from Oct 4-7 2012 in Chicago! Judy McDonald is scheduled to teach the dance on Sat afternoon. 🙂 In 2011, John Robinson had taught At This Moment at the same event. Thanks to the both of them for bringing a part of me to this event that I so wanted to attend. One day, I will, fingers crossed… ;-P

Qing Fei De Yi – lyrics translation

Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | June 14, 2012

I know many of us can’t sing to Chinese songs because we can’t read the Chinese characters! But the song is too good to be wasted without us singing along while we dance it! So sing along to the “romanised” version of the song.

Nan yi wang ji chu ci jian ni
Yi shuang mi ren de yan jing
Zai wo nao hai li Ni de shen ying
Hui san bu qu
Wo ni de shuang shou gan jue ni de wen rou
Zhen de you dian tou bu guo qi
Ni de tian zhen Wo xiang zhen xi
Kan dao ni shou wei qu Wo hui shang xin Oh…

Chorus:

Zhi pa wo zi ji hui ai shang ni
Bu gan rang zi ji kao de tai jin
Pa wo mei shen me neng gou gei ni
Ai ni ye xu yao hen da de yong qi

Zhi pa wo zi ji hui ai shang ni
Ye xu you tian hui qing bu zi jin
Xiang nian zhi rang zi ji ku le zi ji
Ai shang ni shi wo qing fei de yi

REPEAT AGAIN

Shen me yuan yin Ya…
Wo jing ran you hui yu jian ni
Wo zhen de zhen de bu yuan yi
Jiu zhe yang xian ru ai de xian jing Oh…

REPEAT CHORUS

Don’t know the meaning of the words you’re singing? This is the translation!

It’s hard to forget The first time I met you
Those mesmerizing pair of eyes
In my mind The thoughts of you
Cannot be erased
When I hold your hand and feel your warmth
It’s really too much for me to handle
Your innocence I would like to treasure
When I see you suffering I will feel sad Oh…

Chorus:

Just afraid I will fall in love with you
Dare not let myself be too close to you
Afraid I’ve got nothing to offer you
To love you may require a lot of courage too

Just afraid I will fall in love with you
Maybe one day I wouldn’t be able to control myself
from falling in love with you
Thinking of you only hurts myself
I just can’t help falling in love with you

REPEAT AGAIN

What’s the reason Ya…
That I meet you again
I really really don’t wish to
Fall into the love trap like this Oh…

REPEAT CHORUS
