Tips to WIGGLE!
Jennifer Choo Sue Chin | February 11, 2009It’s just 2 days since I released the dance Cha Cha Conchita and I’ve got overwhelming response from everywhere. Seems like everyone loved the dance a lot and find it cute, especially the ‘butt wiggles’. Some said, “I love the butt wiggles, but I’m not sure if I can wiggle my butt! But I sure would love to try it!”
So here are some tips & techniques to do the butt wiggles or in Belly Dancing term – ‘Egyptian Shimmy’, from Mee Mee, a good friend who is a belly dance teacher.
Tips to wiggle
1. Make sure your chest is lifted and your pelvic tuck-in to ensure that you don’t arch your back. This is to make sure you wiggle safely without hurting your back. The chest is lifted to create space between your upper body and lower body and to isolate them. Relax your knees (do not lock the knees) and feet facing forward. Body weight can be slightly to the front or center, depending on how fast you want to wiggle. When doing faster wiggles, it is easier if the body weight is slightly in front.2. Alternate bending the knees slightly in out in out evenly. Start slow and add pace as you practice. If it becomes uneven when you speed up, slow it down again to the speed that you can do it evenly and try to speed up again when you’re ready.
3. Sometimes it’s difficult to imagine pushing the knees in and out.. So another way is to try to wiggle the butt and let the two ‘cheeks’ bounce each other. Hehe…
Happy wiggling!!

Now…. without sounding ‘sexist’… Women have a ‘natural’ ability to ‘wiggle the butt’ far more vigorously than Men. Men’s butts are more taught (muscular)… but Guys… don’t despair … if you cant be as ‘Cheeky’ as the Ladies.. then just give the whole body a wiggle…lol. Whatever you do… don’t give up the dance… its too much fun… especially when you are dancing behind all those Ladies… lol
